Vet Care: A Compassionate Science

Discover When It Is Time To Take Your Pet To The Veterinary Clinic

As the owner of an animal, you will want to make sure that you are well aware of the time in which you need to take your pet to the veterinary clinic for an examination and possible treatment. You do not want to delay getting your pet treatment because their condition could get worse, causing them a lot more pain or discomfort and causing the cost of the treatment to increase. Therefore, you will want to spend a little time reviewing the following signs that it is time to call your vet to see about getting your pet in to be seen.

Your Pet Has Been Lethargic For Days

It can be normal for your pet to feel like sleeping or just lounging around the house when they are not feeling good for the day. However, if they seem overly lethargic for more than a day or two, this is something that you are going to want to bring to the attention of your vet. There could be a much more serious condition that they are dealing with.

Your Pet Is Not Able To Keep Anything Down

If you have discovered that your pet is not able to keep any food or water down, it could be that they simply have an upset stomach and will need to rest for the day. Should this problem continue on for more than a day, you will want to get your pet seen by a vet as soon as possible. This is because it does not take long for animals to become dehydrated, which can cause many issues ranging from discomfort and muscle aches to the shut down of vital organs. Your vet will be able to get your pet hooked up to an IV to get them hydrated, while they run tests to see what is wrong with them.

With those few signs of trouble, you should find that you are going to have an easier time noticing whether or not it is time to get your furry little friend some medical attention. If you do not have a vet that you normally take your pet to, now would be an excellent time to start looking for one. Even if your pet is not currently expressing any distress, you will want to at least get them seen by the new vet for a wellness appointment. This way, your pet will be an established patient which will make getting in to see the vet easier in the future should problems arise.

About Me

Vet Care: A Compassionate Science

In order to be a good veterinarian, one needs a few characteristics. One must have a love and passion for animals, and also a love for science. You see, veterinarians have to know a lot of science to do their jobs, but they also have to apply that science in a very compassionate way to preserve and improve the health of their patients. This is not always easy when your patient is a 100-pound German shepherd who is mad because his paw hurts. We greatly appreciate vets, the complexity of what they do, and the love they put into their jobs. That's why we created this blog to share more about this awesome profession.
